Re: Two day drug investigation leads to Fulton mans arrest
On Thursday March 15th 2007 the McCracken County Sheriff's Department's Drug Division was contacted by representatives from the Excell Marine Corporation, located on Virginia Street in Paducah. The representatives reported that they had received a suspicious package around noon on the 15th and due to their policies and procedures they investigated the package. There investigation concerning the package subsequently lead to them locating over 2 ounces of Marijuana. Sheriff's detectives responded to the location to take possession of the illegal items recovered out of the package and to begin the investigation. Also inside the package detectives observed several boxes of dryer sheets along with other non related items. The dryer sheets were used in an effort to cover the scent of the Marijuana. The investigation revealed that the package had been dropped off by an unidentified white male and employees were informed that the package was for Bryan Reed. Mr. Reed's name and boat name was also included on the outside of the package. Detectives learned that Mr. Reed was currently on a boat near Ohio and was not due to be back for several days.
McCracken detectives devised a plan with the cooperation of the Excell Marine Corporation to have Mr. Reed brought back to Paducah under the pretext that he was going to be catching a different boat. This plan was put into motion on the afternoon of March 15th.
On March 16th Excell Marine Corporation was contacted by Mr. Reed inquiring if they had a package for him after he had been informed that he was to return to Paducah for another assignment. They informed Mr. Reed that he did in fact have a package adding that they would arrange for him to pick it up when he arrived back in Paducah later that afternoon. At approximately 4:00 p.m. on March 16th, 2007 detectives set up surveillance waiting for Mr. Reed to arrive to pick the package up. At approximately 4:30 p.m. Mr. Reed did arrive and take possession of the package and was subsequently detained by detectives. After a brief interview detectives determined that Mr. Reed was aware that he had Marijuana awaiting for him inside the package as well as admitted to possessing a Marijuana residue smoking pipe in some of his property that he had brought with him.
Mr. Reed was transported to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department where he was interviewed further by detectives concerning this matter. A detailed search of his person revealed a bottle containing human urine inside it. The bottle was recovered out of Mr. Reed's crouch area. During the course of the interview Mr. Reed admitted that he had been smoking Marijuana for the past 15 plus years, stated that he was carrying the urine around in the event he was drug tested, and acknowledged that he had drug paraphernalia inside his residence which was located in south Graves County on the Tennessee State line.
A search of Mr. Reed's property that he had brought with him off of the boat also revealed items that belonged to the Excell Marine Corporation and had been stolen by Mr. Reed. Mr. Reed during the interview admitted to taking the items without permission adding that he was going to use the items at his residence for his own personal use.
This investigation continued throughout the evening of March 16th which consisted of McCracken County Sheriff's Detectives transporting Mr. reed to his residence in Graves County where a search of his residence was conducted by McCracken detectives along with the Graves County Sheriff's Department. This search was conducted in efforts to determine if any additional stolen property was at Mr. Reed's residence along with additional drugs and or items of drug paraphernalia. A search of Mr. Reed's residence (located on St. Rt. 129) revealed a quantity of Methamphetamine, syringes, Marijuana, scales, and other items of drug paraphernalia. The drug investigation at Mr. Reed's residence was handled by the Graves County Sheriff's Department where the investigation is on going.
After the search was completed Mr. Reed was transported back to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
