Re: Accident with injuries on US 60 at Maxon Road

An early morning injury accident (7:50 am) on US 60 at Maxon Road closed the eastbound lanes for approximately two hours. Rachel Shinn, age 25, of Metropolis Il. was traveling south on Maxon Road in a 1999 Pontiac 4 door and approaching the intersection of US 60. She failed to realize she had to stop at the intersection and continued across the highway into the path of a 1999 Chrysler mini van driven by Camelia Clark, age 47, of Paducah who was traveling west on US 60.

Shinn's vehicle was struck in the driver's door by Clark's vehicle. Concord and West McCracken firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to allow Mercy Regional EMS entry to the vehicle in order to treat an unresponsive Shinn. She was later airlifted from the scene by PHI helicopter to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Giardeau with a head injury. Clark was transported to Lourdes Hospital complaining of soreness and pain in her legs and neck. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and the airbags on the mini van deployed.

The accident is being investigated by Deputy Eric Augustus and he is being assisted by accident reconstructionist Det. Sgt. Darryl Carr. Paducah Police Officers also responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control.

No charges are anticipated.
