Re: Cattle hauler accident on I-24

A one vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of I-24 @ 6:12 AM completely shut down the interstate for approximately 4 hours this date.

Angela M. Weber, age 33, of Wausa, NE was traveling west on I -24 in a 1993 Peterbilt cattle hauling semi tractor trailer. She advised a front tire on the tractor blew out which caused the truck to start to weave back and forth. The trailer had 114 head of cattle on it and the weaving caused the cattle's weight to shift and that in turn caused Weber to lose control of the vehicle and run into the median. She did not suffer any injuries from the crash. After running into the median the truck overturned and that allowed several head of cattle to escape from the broken trailer.

With help from numerous agencies and private citizens the escaped cattle were rounded up and taken to the Ledbetter Live Stock Auction for holding until another truck could pick them up. Several cattle did have to be destroyed at the scene due to injuries. It is believed all the cattle were accounted for. Weber was cited by Ky. Vehicle Enforcement for not having paid the proper usage taxes. The accident was investigated by Deputy Dwayne Pickett.
