----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Routine K-9 searches were conducted this morning at both Reidland and Heath High Schools in McCracken County.

Request for the searches came from the McCracken County Board of Education.

Two students were charged this morning.

A juvenile from Reidland High School was charged with Possession of Marijuana after a small amount of Marijuana was found in the vehicle the student drove to school. A search by sheriff's detectives was carried out at the juveniles home. There they located and seized a quantity of liquor from the juveniles bedroom. The juvenile was also charged with Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and was taken into custody.

An 18 year Heath High School student was arrested after he was found to have a "butterfly type knife" on his person. This type of knife is considered a deadly weapon. The knife was concealed in the students pocket.

Arrested: Brockwell, Joseph G. 18 year old of Paducah, Ky

Charges: Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon

Brockwell was taken and lodged at the McCracken County Regional Jail.

K-9 Units from the Mayfield Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Fulton Police Department, Paducah Police Department, McCracken County Sheriff's Department, as well as McCracken Sheriff's Narcotics officers assisted in the searches. McCracken County Board of Education Resource Officers also assisted.

"There will be additional searches this year at the county schools", Sheriff Jon Hayden said.
