Re: Deputy Jailer arrested for Promoting Contraband and Official Misconduct

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department received a complaint from Jailer Bill Adams on 12/06/2007 that one of his Deputy Jailers was suspected of receiving money from an inmate and purchasing tobacco with it. The deputy jailer would pocket the money that was left over and covertly bring the tobacco into the jail, while on duty, to give to the inmate.

The investigation showed that on seven (7) different occasions Deputy Jailer Brent Allen Wilson, 33 of Paducah, would receive a letter from an inmate giving him permission to retrieve funds from his account. Brent Wilson would take the letter to a local credit union, retrieve the money and then purchase tobacco for the inmate. Brent Wilson would bring the tobacco in while he was on duty and give the inmate the tobacco.

An interview was conducted on this date with Deputy Jailer Brent Wilson. He did confirm in fact that he and an inmate had an agreement for him to receive funds from the inmate's bank account for the sole purpose of retrieving tobacco for that inmate. Mr. Wilson also confirmed that he did receive funds by pocketing the residual money for purchasing the tobacco and bringing it into the jail. This was confirmed to have happened on seven (7) different occasions. Brent Wilson was charged on this date at 9:13am with seven (7) counts of Official Misconduct 1st degree ( Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one (1) year and $500 fine on each count) and Promoting Contraband 2nd degree ( Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one (1) year and $500 fine on each count). Brent Wilson was relieved of his position as a McCracken County Deputy Jailer by Jailer Bill Adams. Due to his status, Mr. Wilson is currently lodged in the Marshall County Jail. His bond is set at $1,000 cash only.

I was assisted in the investigation by McCracken County Chief Deputy Jailer Greg Garrison and Jailer Bill Adams.
