Re: 2005 Rape Investigation / Indictment issued

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An August 2005 rape investigation has led to a 1st Degree Rape Indictment today from a McCracken County Grand Jury.

On August 29, 2005 during the early morning hours, a partially nude injured woman walked up to a gas station near Exit 11 reporting that she had been raped by an unknown male nearby. The victim further reported that the man had driven her out to a rural remote area of McCracken County and raped her, leaving her there partially nude.

McCracken Sheriff's detectives through their investigation were able to have the suspect identified within a day. The suspect was already wanted on other charges and after learning that sheriff's detectives were searching for him in connection with the rape, fled to state of Kentucky and has been on the run ever since.

In August 2007 sheriff's detectives were able to track the suspect down to a location in Wisconsin. They notified authorities there whom did locate and arrest him on unrelated Kentucky charges.

The suspect was extradited back to McCracken County and interviewed by sheriff's authorities on August 13, 2007. After further investigation, the case was presented to a McCracken County Grand Jury on Thursday.

He was indicted on a 1st Degree Rape charge which carries a penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison.

The suspect ( 32 year old John Henry Caffey) is currently serving a sentence on un-related charges at the McCracken County Regional Jail.
