Foot Chase Leads To Cocaine Trafficking Charges
On Saturday May 31, 2008 at 21:21 (9:21 p.m.) McCracken County Sheriff's Department Drug Detectives were working in the area of 9th and Boyd observing for any activity consistent with drug trafficking. Detectives observed a 2000 Maroon in color Dodge Intrepid circle the area in question and fail to signal numerous times. Detectives followed the vehicle out of the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at North 13th Street and Monroe. The vehicle continued approximately one and one half (1 1/2) of a block and pulled to the side of the road appearing to stop. As the vehicle was rolling to a stop detectives observed the drivers door open and a black male exit and flee on foot. Detectives gave chase to the subject for approximately two (2) blocks where he was subdued behind a residence in the 300 block of Harahan Blvd.
The man was identified as being Donnie L. Ford of Paducah. During the foot chase detectives had observed Ford throwing items from his pockets. Detectives from both the Paducah Police Department DAVE Unit and McCracken County Sheriff's Department backtracked the path taken during the pursuit. Detectives located a white plastic bag that contained over 12 grams of Crack Cocaine, a cell phone and the keys to the vehicle that Ford was operating. The Cocaine had an estimated street value of over $1200.00.
A search of Ford's person revealed $200.00 in US Currency. Ford was arrested and transported to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
