Marshall County Man Arrested On Drug Trafficking Charges

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department Drug Division had been investigating allegations concerning a Marshall County man trafficking in large quantities of Marijuana. The man had been identified as William "David" Mathis of Eddyville. On 06/24/08 an undercover operation ensued which consisted of an undercover officer delivering approximately 25 pounds of processed Marijuana to Mathis at his request to an establishment in Reidland. Mathis met the officer at 21:13 p.m. where several additional officers were conducting surveillance on the location and monitoring the situation. After Mathis arrived at the location he gave the undercover officer a large sum of US Currency in return for the Marijuana. Mathis subsequently placed the 25 pounds of Marijuana into the bed of the 1993 pickup truck that he was driving. Verbal confirmation that the deal had gone through was given to the takedown teams as they simultaneously moved into effect the arrest of Mr. Mathis. A search of Mathis vehicle revealed several Lortab 7.5 mg pills that were not in a proper container along with the 25 pound brick of Marijuana in the bed of the truck. Detectives also located what appeared to be drug ledgers that contained names of individuals that are known to law enforcement to be drug traffickers. Beside these names were amount's that are suspected to be money that was owed to Mathis.

"This Marijuana had a street value of approximately $25,000.00 and would had made it to the streets of the Purchase Area had it not been for law enforcement's intervention" Det. Sgt. Matt Carter
