Grandmother Arrested after leaving 4 yr old unsupervised at the McCracken County Fairgrounds

Regina Heflin, 52, of Kevil was arrest during the final hours of the McCracken County Fair after allowing her 4 year old granddaughter to wander away. The child was found by a concern citizen climbing on a barrier fence of one of the carnival rides approx 1,000 feet from the grandstands where they had been watching the demolition derby. Mrs. Heflin was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Minor after Deputies discovered she was aware her grandchild was missing, but postponed the search when her other grandchild was picked out of the crowd to assist with the annual ticket drawing. Deputies interrupted the drawing to have the announcer advise the child's name and where she and other deputies were waiting. Mrs. Heflin did not advise deputies until after the drawing concluded approx 10 minutes later. Further Mrs. Heflin never asked for any assistance from any of the numerous emergency workers or law enforcement officers working in the area. It was determined the child may have been wandering around the midway for more than an hour before she was discovered. Mrs. Heflin was arrested and lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
