Suspect: Darrell M. Samuels

DOB: 06/23/82

On July 9th, 2008 at approximately 02:25 AM at the McCracken County Regional Jail, Darrell M. Samuels and another inmate got into an altercation. After a few minutes, the altercation was stopped by another inmate. Darrell was then released by the inmate holding him. Darrell Samuels then attacked the the inmate in which he had the altercation with, again. This time Darrell Samuels bit the left ear of the victim off. The other inmate that subdued Samuels just prior subdued him again. Samuels had the victim's ear in his mouth and was forced to spit the ear out. The Deputy Jailers responded after calls for help from the inmates. The victim was transported to Lourdes Hospital and then flown to University Hospital, located in Louisville, KY. The victim had surgery to reconnect the ear. The victim will have to under go at least two more surgeries.

A warrant for 2nd Degree Assault, a class C Felony, was served on Darrell Samuels on 08/01/08 at the McCracken County Regional Jail. Bond was set at $10,000. The case is being investigated by Detective Tom Emery.
