Burglary Investigation Leeds to Two Arrest

 

On March 25, the Sheriff's Department received a call to investigate a residential burglary on Old Mayfield Road. Upon arrival it was determined that the residence was forcibly entered and that numerous antique items had been removed.

On March 26, a representative from the Metropolis Police Department contacted the McCracken County Detective Division and was enquiring about an open burglary case involving the thefts of antiques. An individual had brought numerous items to the Metropolis Police Department claiming that they had been taken from a residence in McCracken County. The items were collected by the Metropolis Police and the suspects were asked to respond to the Sheriff's Office. Both of the suspects were interviewed and admitted to their involvement in the burglary. Additional charges were brought against the two suspects after admission of three trips to the residence.

On March 27, the items that were turned over to the Metropolis Police Department were recovered and were released to the victims.

 

ARRESTED:

John A. Shank, 18, of Metropolis, IL and a 17 year old male juvenile also of Metropolis. Both were charged with 3 counts of Burglary 2nd degree. Each count is a Class C Felony and carries a punishment of 5-10 years in prison. Additionally they received 2 counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $300.00 for the items that were taken from the residence. Each count is a Class D Felony and carries a punishment of 1-5 years in prison.

 

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
