2 vehicle accident delays traffic on John Puryear Drive.
An early morning accident kills one man and sends another to the hospital. The McCracken County Sheriff's department responded to a 2 vehicle accident shortly after 04:00 am this morning. When deputies arrived they found a 2 vehicle accident at the intersection of John Puryear Drive and Estes Lane. The investigation concluded that 75 year old Moss Green of Ledbetter was traveling southbound on Puryear when his 1999 Mercury Sable was hit in the drivers door by another that was crossing John Puryear at Estes Lane. The collision caused his vehicle to leave the roadway and cross a ditch and strike a chain link fence belonging to the Dept of Highways. Mr. Moss's vehicle came to rest only a few feet from a residence that was on the corner. Mr. Moss was trapped in his vehicle for approximately 25 mins and had to be extricated by the Reidland Farley Fire Department. He was transported to Western Baptist and later passed away as a result of his injuries. The other vehicle a 2002 Chevrolet Impala was driven by 63 year old Harry Wallace of Paducah. Mr Wallace said he was attempting to cross John Puryear and mis-judged the clearance he had when the accident occurred. His vehicle continued forward and left the roadway striking a utility pole on the passenger side. Mr. Wallace was out of his vehicle walking around when deputies arrived but was transported by ambulance to Lourdes Hospital for minor injuries. The southbound lanes of John Puryear were closed for approximately 2 hours while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
