4 vehicle accident delays school traffic on Metropolis Lake Road.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Department responded to the second of 2 accidents this morning involving school students. The second accident occurred around 07:32 a.m. on Metropolis lake road in West Paducah. Persons involved told Deputy Malcolm Couch that 16 year old Stephen Swinford of Paducah was traveling northbound in his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on Metropolis Lake Road when he failed to stop in time to avoid hitting the rear-end of another vehicle that was slowing for traffic ahead. Mr. Swinford was transported by Mercy Ambulance to Western Baptist Hospital for minor injuries. The collision caused a chain-reaction damaging a total of 4 vehicles. 17 year Brittany Thompson of Paducah said she was slowing for traffic when her 2004 Buick Rendezvous was rear-ended by Swinford causing her to rear-end the vehicle in front of her. Thompson and her passenger 13 year old Megan Thompson were not injured. Thompsons vehicle struck the rear-end of a 1998 Toyota Sienna Mini Van that was being driven by 37 year old Joy Lampley of Paducah. Mrs. Lampley said she had stopped in traffic when she was struck from behind by Thompson. The collision caused her to rear-end a 2008 Jeep Commander driven by 41 year old Melinda Carroll also of Paducah. Ms. Carroll told Deputy Couch she was stopped in school traffic when the accident occurred, she and her passenger 15 year old Hannah Carroll were not injured. The Sheriff's Department was assisted by West McCracken Fire department until Mercy ambulance could arrive, all the occupants except Swinford refused treatment and transport. Swinford's and Lampley's vehicle had to be towed from the scene. Traffic on Metropolis Lake Road was down to 1 lane for approximately 40 mins.
