SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION ON HOUSER ROAD OPERATOR FLEES THE SCENE.
On 6/19/09 the McCracken County Sheriff's Dept responded to the area of Houser Road and Old Mayfield Road to a possible single vehicle injury collision. It is believed that the 2004 Ford Explorer pickup was south on Houser Road when misjudging a curve and running off the road. After running off the road, the vehicle then struck a tree and ran off an earth embankment, coming to rest on the driver side doors. When deputies arrived on the scene the operator of the vehicle fled into a wooded area just off Houser Road and was unable to be located. The vehicle was registered to an address off Old Mayfield Road, where deputies tried to contact the owners. One of the Co-Owners Lana Wilmath stated that her boyfriend Marion McCollum Jr was driving the vehicle and had just left their residence moments before the collision. Wilmath stated that McCollum and her were in an argument while they were home drinking so McCollum left.
On 6/20/09 the McCracken County Sheriff's Dept responded to Western Baptist Hospital where McCollum was finally located. McCollum stated that he was driving the vehicle during the collision. McCollum further stated that after leaving the scene he laid out in a field and did not make it home until the next morning. McCollum did say that he had been drinking before the incident occurred.
McCollum had not been charged with anything at this time but charges are pending.
