Between June 28 and June 29 2009 the McCracken County Sheriff's Department received complaints of at least twenty four thefts from automobiles. The thefts were reported mainly in the Reidland area of McCracken county. Items taken varied but included mainly electronic devices such as GPS systems, stereo systems, Ipods, DVD players, tools, and hand held communication devices. On June 29 2009 McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies received a tip that seemed to be related to the thefts. On June 30, 2009 McCracken County Sheriff's Detectives and Deputies continued the investigation which ultimately led to the recovery of much of the stolen property at 1502 Old Mayfield Road the residence of Kayla Young (19yoa) and Charles David Thomas (23yoa). Young was charged with two counts of Complicity to Commit Theft of $500.00 a felony. Thomas was charged with one count of Theft by Unlawful Taking over $500.00 a felony. Detectives then recovered several more stolen items at several different locations one of which led to the arrest of Jonathan G. Garcia of Monroe Street in Paducah. Garcia (19yoa) was charged with two counts of Theft By Unlawful Taking over $500.00, a felony. It is expected that these individuals will face more charges in the next few days. Detectives are searching for two other individuals for questioning about the thefts as the investigation is continuing.

Victims who have filed a report will be contacted within the next few days regarding the return of the recovered property.

These vehicle thefts were relegated to vehicles that were left unlocked with valuables inside. Detectives urge the public to practice basic security measures such as removing valuables from vehicles when left unattended, parking in a lighted areas when possible and locking vehicles when unattended.
