Injury Accident On Oaks Road

The McCracken County Sheriff's department responded to a single vehicle accident in the 1000 block of Oaks Road, around 22:13 hours. 21 year old Darren Cole of Paducah told deputies he was traveling southbound on Oaks road and was distracted by his cell phone he said he looked away for just a second when the passenger side of his 1999 Chevrolet S-10 dropped of the edge of the roadway. That portion of Oaks road has little to no shoulder and it caused Cole to lose control and strike a utility pole breaking it into three pieces. Mr. Cole's vehicle came to rest on a portion of the downed utility lines and he had to remain in his vehicle until told it was safe by a representative of Paducah Power. Residence in the area continued to have power until the utility company had to turn it off to set a new pole. Mr. Cole was transported by Mercy Ambulance to Western Baptist hospital for minor injuries. He vehicle had severe damage and had to be towed from the scene. Traffic on Oaks road had to be detoured for approximately 3 hours while emergency and utility workers worked to clear the scene. The Sheriff's department was assisted by Reidland Farley Fire Department who provided first aide and the McCracken County Disaster and Emergency Services who provided assistance with traffic.
