On 09-18-2009 McCracken County Sheriff's Detectives arrested Christopher M. Johnson 38, of Evelyn Drive on multiple offenses including assaulting and attempting to disarm a peace officer. Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department Drug Unit began an investigation after receiving information that alleged that Chris Johnson was residing at 1815 Evelyn Drive and was again involved in illegal drug activity. On 09-18-2009 at approximately 15:13 hrs Detective Sergeant Matt Carter and Detective Michael Wray located Chris Johnson at 1815 Evelyn Drive in the attached garage of the residence. While speaking to Johnson, Det. Sgt. Matt Carter observed a small quantity of marijuana in plain view on a pool table in the garage of the residence. While talking to Johnson about the marijuana, Sgt. Carter observed a bulge in Johnson's front left pants pocket. Carter asked Johnson if had any weapons and began a weapons pat down. During the course of the pat down Sgt. Carter Felt what he immediately recognized as a methamphetamine smoking pipe in Johnson's front pocket. As Sgt. Carter attempted to recover the pipe Johnson shoved him and ran out the garage door. Sgt. Carter and Det. Wray gave chase and caught Johnson in the front yard of the residence where a struggle ensued. During the struggle Johnson retrieved a plastic baggy of methamphetamine from somewhere on his person and attempted to swallow it. Detectives continued to attempt subdue Johnson for several minutes but, were unsuccessful. At one point during the struggle Johnson grabbed Sgt. Carter's service weapon and attempted to remove it from his holster. Sgt. Carter was able to use weapon retention techniques to maintain control of his weapon. Also during the struggle Johnson bit Det. Wray on his forearm. Additional McCracken County Sheriff Deputies and Paducah Police Officers arrived on scene and assisted in the arrest of Johnson. After Johnson was arrested detectives recovered the plastic baggy containing Methamphetamine from Johnson's mouth and the methamphetamine-smoking pipe that Carter had felt earlier from Johnson's pants pocket.
