At 2:36 PM the Sheriff's Department received a all to investigate a roll over injury accident at the 8 mile marker. Central Dispatch notified both city and county agencies to respond to the area due to conflicting reports of the accident location. Responding agencies included the Paducah Police Department, Paducah Fire Department, Lone Oak Fire Department, Reidland/Farley Fire Department and the Paducah McCracken County Rescue Squad. The fire departments assisted Mercy Regional EMS with patient care. The Paducah Police and the DES Rescue assisted with the closure of the East bound lanes of Interstate 24 while Deputies worked to reconstruct the three vehicle accident.

At 1:37 PM the Sheriff's Department began investigating a non-injury accident in the East bound lanes of I24 at the 10 mile marker. As Deputies were working to clear this scene, the disrupted flow of traffic contributed to the injury accident at the 8 mile marker. Witnesses and evidence at the scene indicate that Jason Box , 36, of Calvert City was operating a 1989 Nissan pickup when he topped a hill and noticed the slowed traffic. As he attempted to avoid the collision, he lost control and the vehicle began to roll. Mr. Box was ejected from the pickup as I rolled multiple times. He was taken Lourdes for treatment of multiple injuries and was then flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tn. His 15 year old son, Dakota was also treated at Lourdes Hospital.

The pickup that Mr. Box was operating was determined to have struck two other East bound vehicles before coming to rest in the ditch next to the roadway. The first, was a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 38 year old James Chockley, of Waco, Tx. He was treated and transported to Lourdes for back pain. Zachary Howard, 18, of Paducah was the operator of the third vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet pickup was not injured as a result of the accident.

The East bound lanes were closed for approximately three and one half hours while the investigation was conducted. The reconstruction was completed by the Sheriff's Department Accident Reconstructionist Devant Ramage.
