Major Jim Smith Retiring Today

A long time member of the McCracken County Sheriff's Department is retiring, effective at close of business today.

 

Maj. Jim Smith began his career with the sheriff's department in January 1990, being hired by former McCracken Co. Sheriff Howard Walker Jr. He was promoted numerous times during his career, to Sgt in 1995, to Captain in 2001, and to Major in January 2007.

 

Maj. Smith has in recent years been involved in numerous high profile cases including one that led to the conviction of an area serial rapist, convictions in several area homicides, thefts and other cases. He most recently has been in charge of departmental operations.

 

"Maj. Smith has been instrumental in the past three years under this administration in the restructuring of the department, as well as our continued effort of improving the professionalism of this agency."

 

There will be a retirement gathering for Maj. Smith tonight at the Lone Oak Lions Club Building beginning at 6:30PM.
