November 3, 2009

On November 3, 2009 at approximately 8:31 pm McCracken County Sheriff's Detectives, assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff Detectives executed a search warrant 3121 Clark Street in Paducah. Detectives arrested Edward K. Copeland and Stephanie N. Mathis charging them with Marijuana trafficking offenses.

Detectives began investigating the couple after receiving information alleging that Marijuana was being sold from the residence located on Clark Street near Paducah Middle School. An investigation was conducted by Sheriff's Detectives that led to the execution of  a search warrant at the residence located at 3121 Clark Street in Paducah. While attempting to make entry into residence, detectives observed Copeland through a window running toward the rear of the residence. Once inside detectives located Copeland, Mathis, and three small children. Lying in the floor near Copeland, detectives located a black bag that contained marijuana packaged for sale and a set of digital scales. A search of the residence revealed a total of 11.2 ounces of compressed marijuana packaged for sale, plastic baggies, scales, a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and $12,900 in US currency believed to be proceeds of illegal marijuana sales. Detectives determined that Copeland was unemployed and had been for sometime.

Detectives determined that Mathis had been present during some of the marijuana transactions and was benefiting from the proceeds of Copeland's marijuana. The investigation revealed that Mathis was using the money to pay outstanding bills.

Copeland was also charged with Ballard County offenses stemming from a Ballard County case where he was charged with complicity to traffic in controlled Substance.

Mr... Copeland's Charges are enhanced due to fact that had a firearm in close proximity to the marijuana in the residence.

The three children were released to a family member
