The McCracken Sheriff's Department has received reports this morning of telephone calls being made to McCracken County residents homes advising them that they have won a large sum of money.
The caller appears to be male with a Jamaican accent. He is instructing the residents to go to Western Union and wire $499.00 dollars to O'Neil Wood of Kingston, Jamaica. In return, you will receive 1/4 million dollars in the next few days and that the money will be delivered to your home. The number given for them to call is (876) 899-1055.
The sheriff's department contacted this number this morning and the adult male with the Jamaican accent was confronted. He hung up on investigators.
"As crazy as this scheme is and sounds, we know that there may be some people that may fall for this scam. One piece of advice that we continue to give, is that if something sounds a little to good to be true it usually always is."
The sheriff's department will be passing this information along to other authorities.
