November 28th, 2009

At approximately 1724 hours this date a farm truck owned by Ronnie Flowers of Kevil, Kentucky, was being driven by 61 year old John Bohanon of Kevil, Kentucky.  The driver of the farm truck was West bound on Blandville Road near Fisher road when a rear cargo door latch came ajar.  The driver of the farm truck, unknowingly began to spill several thousand pounds of soybeans onto Blandville Road. The soy beans were spread from Fisher Road to approximately Gholson Road on Blandville Road.

17 year old Katie Fostervold of Bardwell, Kentucky was driving her passenger car was West bound on Blandville Road.  Katie drove into the soy beans, causing her to loose control and her car drifted into the East bound lane of traffic.  The driver of the passenger car managed to steer her vehicle back into her lane of traffic and avoid a head on collision.  The driver of the passenger car lost control again, which sent her sliding sideways through a yard located at 9455 Blandville Road. The passenger car slid through the yard and struck a tree, which crushed the car trapping the driver behind the steering wheel.  There were 3 passengers in Katie's car; 17 year old Chris Polivick, 17 year old Amy Fostervold, and 18 year old Justin Cotton.  The three passengers were able to exit the vehicle, which caught on fire due to a fuel leak in the rear of the vehicle.  Concord Fire Department members arrived on scene, extinguished the fire, and used mechanical devices to extract the driver from the vehicle.  The passenger car was towed by Sullivan's Towing per the owners request.  The driver and passenger's, Chris Polivick and Justin Cotton were transported by Mercy EMS to Lourdes Hospital for treatment.  Passenger Amy Fostervold was transported to Lourdes Hospital by private vehicle and checked for injuries.

Members of the McCracken County Disaster Emergency Services and McCracken County Animal Control assisted with traffic control, while members of the Concord Fire Department, and the Kentucky State Highway Department worked for approximately 3 hours clearing the roadway of soybeans, before the roadway could be reopened.
