Theft Charges

On January 4, 2010 R. Gene Prater 67 years old of Paducah was charged with Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property over $300.00. Mr. Prater who owns a local heating and air business was hired to install a complete heating and air unit in a residence under construction. Mr. Prater was given a check by the home owner for several thousand dollars to cover cost of equipment and labor and was to be paid the remaining amount later. The home owner wrote the check to Mr. Prater on October 11, 2007.The check was deposited on October 15, 2007. Mr. Prater completed part of the work and never returned to complete the job. The home owner hired a new company approximately 6 months later to complete the install. Since then the home owner has made repeated attempts to contact Mr. Prater to no avail. Mr. Prater was contacted and stated he did owe the home owner several thousand dollars and never completed the work because of being ill.
