On 01-07-10 at approx 0245 hrs McCracken County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Farley area. While responding to the address the stolen vehicle was discovered stuck in a ditch on Oaks Road near the Reidland Farley Fire Station. A distinct set foot prints were observed in the snow leading away from the stolen vehicle and followed to a residence nearby on Oaks Road. The suspect Joshua Ruud had apparently just made it inside his mothers residence and then fled on foot out a side door when the Deputy knocked on the front door. Mr. Ruud was pursued briefly on foot into a wooded area between Burkhart Lane and John L Puryear Drive before he was able to temporarily evade the deputy. Additional Sheriff Deputies and Paducah Police Officers responded to the area. Deputies/Officers were able to track Mr. Ruud by following his foot prints in the snow. Mr. Ruud was able to make it to the area of Evelyn Drive and call a taxi. Deputies searching in the area, spoke with taxi driver who advised he had just transported a man matching Mr. Ruud's description. This information lead Deputies and Officers to another address in the 1400 block of Oaks Road. Deputies again were able to track Mr. Ruud's foot prints to a residence next door from where he was dropped off. The resident at this address, Kenneth Spann, was advised by Deputies of the situation and the tracks leading up to his residence. Mr. Spann stated someone had knocked on the door but denied letting anyone come inside and that deputies and officers were welcome to look. Mr. Ruud was located hiding in a back bedroom under a mattress and was arrested without further incident. Mr. Ruud is charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $500.00 (Class D Felony) and Fleeing and Evading 2nd Degree (Class A Misd)
Mr. Spann was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension for attempting to conceal Mr. Ruud. Both were lodged in the McCracken County Jail. McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies and Paducah Police Officers tracked Mr. Ruud for over a mile around the Farley area for just over an hour. Mr. Ruud is also suspect in two additional criminal complaints involving vehicles in the city. Investigation is still pending. |
