On February 27, 2010 at approximately 11:08 PM, McCracken County Sheriff Deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Mathew Haralambidis in the 800 block of North 8th Street in Paducah. After Deputy Norman activated his emergency equipment, the driver of the vehicle opened his door and threw out an object that was consistent with a cigarette. When the deputy spoke with Haralambidis, a strong odor of burnt marijuana and alcohol was coming from the vehicle. Upon further investigation, a plastic bag containing marijuana was located in a pocket of Haralambidis' coat. Deputy Shaw also located the item in which Haralambidis threw from his vehicle, a burnt marijuana roach. During an interview, Haralambidis stated that he tried to get rid of the marijuana roach because he did not want to go back to jail. Haralambidis also failed Standard Field Sobriety Tests and stated that he had been smoking marijuana while driving and had drank vodka before driving. An open bottle of vodka was located in the vehicle. Harlambidis was lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
