April 15th, 2010

At approximately 1520 hours, Deputy Derick Pugh and Deputy Chad Shaw were dispatched to an injury accident in the 5900 block of Old Mayfield Road.  Investigation showed that Sarah M. Joyner, 23, of Shawneetown, Ill was driving her 2010 Jeep Wrangler when something fell in her lap distracting her causing her to leave the roadway.  Ms. Joyner's Jeep struck an AT&T telephone poll causing slight damage and continued on through the yard of 5935 Old Mayfield Road.  Ms. Joyner struck the driveway culvert and went airborne for approximately 15 feet before landing in the above yard and striking a gas line.  Ms. Joyner continued through to 5955 Old Mayfield where she struck another gas line, rupturing two gas lines.  Ms. Joyner's vehicle then struck the driveway culvert of 5955 and came to a stop.  Old Mayfield Road was shut down for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes while Atmos Energy repaired the ruptured gas lines.  Ms. Joyner was transported to Western Baptist for non-life threatening injuries by Mercy Regional Ambulance.  Hendron Fire Department and DES assisted at the scene.
