Mayfield Man Arrested for Burglary At The Smoke Shop Liquors at Old Highway 45. |

On 05/23/2010 Deputies responded to a burglary in progress at the Smoke Shop Liquors 7675 Old US Highway 45 South of Paducah Kentucky. When officers arrived they found that the drive thru window had been broken out in attempt to gain access to the building. The Clerks from the Smoke Shop Gas Station also called in the incident by seeing an unknown white male breaking the glass. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke to the clerks that gave a detailed description of the suspect as being a white male with a shaved head wearing a black t shirt and blue jeans. The clerk was able the obtain the license plate number KY 101 CXZ that came back to a 1997 Gold Ford Contour registered to a Valerie Westra of Mayfield. The store Video showed a clear view of a white male wearing a black t shirt and dark baggy blue jeans and a ball cap attempting to gain entry in the store through drive thru window. The video also shows the suspect trying to reach in and trying to open the window where he cut his finger and left blood on the glass. Approximately an hour later the clerks that called in the incident noticed the vehicle pull up to the gas station while Detective Bob Caskey and Deputy Kevin Carter were still on scene. The clerks then alerted the officers and they were able to catch the suspect and detain him. The suspect is Identified as 30 year old Brandon Westra of Mayfield the husband to the registered owner to the vehicle. He was positively identified by the clerks and also by video that was obtained at the scene. Mr. Westra was then transported to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office where he was interviewed by Det. Caskey. Westra then denied that he was ever at the Smoke Shop Liquor Store. Through the evidence collected Det Caskey was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Westra and he was later lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
