On July 19th, 2010 at approximately 10:05 A.M. a vehicle accident closed down both east and west bound lanes of traffic on the I-24 bridge. Traffic was stopped for approximately 2 hours due to Concord Fire freeing one driver by mechanical means. Sammie B. Flournoy 76 of Bardwell KY. was operating a 2007 Ford Ranger traveling west bound on I-24 when he lost control of his truck and small utility trailer. According to witness statements Mr. Flournoy lost control of the trailer and swerved into a 2004 Peterbuilt semi truck and trailer operated by Kenneth L. Decker, 45 years of age, of Philo IL. The 2007 Ford Ranger operated by Sammie B. Flournoy turned on its passenger side and Mr. Flournoy had to be freed by mechanical means. Mr. Flournoy was transported to Western Baptist Hospital for treatment of his injuries. There was also a large amount of debris and grain that was cleared from the scene before opening both lanes of traffic. The McCracken County Sheriff's department was assisted by Concord Fire, Mercy Regional.
