At 17:37 hours the McCracken County Sheriff's Dept. responded to an injury collision at the 13mm on I-24. The investigation showed that LaKeysha Sockwell 27 yoa of Douglasville GA was eastbound on I-24 in her 1999 Chevy Cavilier when she was attempting to move over to avoid a State Mowing Tractor. The State Tractor according to witness's was partially on the fog line in the median. The vehicle behind Sockwell was a 2007 Mitsubishi Gallant operated by Austin West 22 yoa from Lawrenceburg TN, that could not avoid a collision with the State Mowing Tractor and struck the rear tire that was partially on the roadway. The John Deere Tractor was driven by 23 yoa Kenneth Jones of Sunman, IN. The tractor was damaged but the operator was not hurt. After West made contact with the tractor it then swerved and made contact with Sockwell's vehicle, in the rear, as she was slowing and changing lanes. Sockwell's vehicle then made a 180 degree turn and came to rest facing west on the east bound lane shoulder. West's vehicle finally came to rest on the shoulder after striking the concrete railing to the bridge. West and his passenger 27 yoa Kara Gibbs were later transported to one local hospital for apparent minor injures and later released. Sockwell and her passenger's, her brother Lamar Sockwell 29yoa and her three children, Keira Sockwell 11yoa, Aayanna Clark 4yoa, and DeAndre Clark 3yoa were also transported to a local hospital and treated for apparent minor injuries. I-24 traffic was slowed to one lane for approximately an hour while the collision scene was being investigated and cleaned up. The Sheriff's Dept was assisted by Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, Reidland Farley Fire Dept., and Mack's and Meadow's Towing service to remove the vehicles. |
