On 09/01/10, the McCracken County Sheriff's Department received information from a resident on Leonard Futrell Road, regarding an individual stealing equipment out of a UHAUL truck, at 4925 Leonard Futrell Road. As the suspect left the area with the stolen property, the witnesses followed the suspect until police were able to intercept him at a local business on Hinkleville Road. The Paducah Police made contact with the suspect, Michael Chittenden, and held him until deputies arrived. Upon making contact with Chittenden, deputies were able to determine that Chittenden had possible stolen property in the back of his truck. The owner of the property, Jim Varble, was notified, but was unable to respond to the scene to identify the property. At the time deputies made contact with Chittenden, he was arrested on traffic charges and a warrant out of Massac County Illinois. On 09/02/10, upon further investigation, it was determined that the items discovered in Chittenden's truck belonged to Mr. Varble and that Chittenden was responsible for taking the items, with the intentions of selling them as scrap. (Items taken were nine (9) concrete cutters and six (6) brick cutters) On this date, Chittenden was charged with Theft by unlawful Taking O/300.

Again, because of the publics assistance and awareness, we were able to apprehend another criminal and solve a crime.

Chittenden was lodged in the McCracken Regional Jail.
