Local Animal Shelter employee charged with violating Kentucky State Law on Euthanasia

An employee of the McCracken County Humane Society has been charged with nine counts of violating 201 KAR 16:090 and KRS 321.207. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint that Humane Society employee Beau E. Anderson who is a state certified animal euthanasia specialist, had been violating state law by not adhering to Section 5C of the Kentucky Administrative Regulation that requires: “Intercardial injection by hypodermic needle, only on a sedated or unconscious animal.”


The complaint in short was that animals were being euthanized without sedation. An investigation by the sheriff’s department revealed that Mr. Anderson was not following or adhering to the law when euthanizing animals and it was a common practice for him not to do so.


Anderson 32 of McCracken County was charged this afternoon with nine (9) counts of violating the state statute by way of a criminal summons, in connection with nine (9) dogs that were euthanized earlier this month.

He has a court date of December 01st  at 9:00AM in McCracken District Court.


The penalty for these violations include being guilty of a misdemeanor and being fined not less than $10.00 dollars nor more than $500.00 dollars, or sentenced to jail for not less ten (10) nor more than ninety (90) days, or both so fined and imprisoned at the discretion of the jury.

A 2nd McCracken County Humane Society employee has been charged in connection to the ongoing investigation into violations of Kentucky State law concerning euthanasia practices occurring at the shelter.


Dalena J. Hall age 46 of McCracken County, was served with a criminal summons at about 6:30PM Thursday evening (December 01, 2011)by sheriff’s deputies charging her with Ten (10) Counts of Violation of Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 321.207(4); which requires a person in Kentucky to be certified by the Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners as a Certified Animal Euthanasia Specialist.


  The investigation reveals that she did on at least ten occasions, euthanize animals without the certification as the law requires.


She was in addition, charged with violation of KAR 201 16:080 and KRS 312.207. She was while serving as the onsite manager (a full-time paid employee) in charge of the day to day operations of the McCracken County Humane Society, knowingly permitted records of animal euthanasia to be falsified.


She was given a January 05, 2012 court date at 9:00AM to appear in McCracken District Court.


The investigation by the McCracken County Sheriff and County Attorneys Offices continue.
